Fall 2022 Accounting Recruitment Week 

 First, let’s clarify one thing: The traditional name has stuck, but “Accounting Recruitment Week” is really a lot more than just one week!  It is a collection of events held every year specifically for accounting students and alumni. Accounting firms from across Alaska come to campus for a Meet the Firms networking event to get to know you and share the opportunities they have available. You’ll be able to submit your applications to the attending firms, with the potential to interview with them during the scheduled interview week.


Research the recruiting accounting firms and the accounting profession in general 

  • Consider scheduling an appointment with UAF Career Services to help prepare for Accounting Recruitment Week
  • Attend Meet the Firms on September 16th from 3:30pm - 5:30pm in the Wood Center Ballroom 
  • Know what you want in a career
  • Know what you can offer potential employers
  • Research and understand what makes each firm unique so you can decide what type of firm you might want to work for, and what type of work you hope to do
  • Prepare a list of questions you can ask at the Meet & Greet

Apply: Update your resume, think of experiences you can tie into cover letters, and make sure you have at least three professional references ready if asked. Have these materials reviewed by more than one person. Consider scheduling an appointment with UAF Career Services office to review your resume and cover letter and conduct a mock interview. 

Interview: If you are selected to interview, you will receive an email from Handshake to select your interview date and time. It is important that you look for this email and make your selections promptly! You’ll need to select your interview date and time before September 29th at 11:59pm AKT.

Follow up: Whether or not you get the job, send a thank you card or email to the firms. If you haven't heard back from a recruiter more than one week after your interview, send an email or call the firm.

After every Accounting Recruitment event, we ask recruiters, "What advice would you give applicants who plan to interview next year?" See what they had to say in past years:

Alliance CPAs LLC (Alliance) was created as a result of the merger of Kohler, Schmitt and Hutchison, PC and Cook & Haugeberg LLC in July of 2020.  Both predecessor firms have a long history of serving a variety of clients in Fairbanks, Alaska.  New professional staff members, and those performing student accounting internships, can expect a variety of auditing and tax assignments during their first years of employment.  The firm encourages the development of an individual's special interests and skills, but also stresses the importance of gaining a broad experience base for becoming a well-rounded professional.  Alliance’s offices occupy the third floor of the Denali Financial Center in downtown Fairbanks.

Our firm utilizes an electronic auditing, accounting and tax preparation environment including fully automated engagement and write-up accounting and auditing software.  We subscribe to web-based research products on a wide variety of subjects including extensive taxation resources, attestation and accounting technical services and special organization references such as for governments and nonprofit entities.  Staff members are expected to be comfortable with common programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and QuickBooks, and to be able to learn our specialized software applications quickly.


Our office is composed of between 20 and 24 people depending on the time of year.  They include three partners, Kara Moore, Kathleen Thompson, and Gary Corrick; our senior consultants, Gerald Haugeberg, James Dieringer, Jr. and Garry Hutchison; 3 to 4 people in supervisory roles; 6 to 10 staff accountants and 4 members of our support staff.
