    CBSM students get their wings in Angel Investing

    July 14, 2023

    hree CBSM students participated in the Alaska Angel Investment conference, a twelve-week program that teaches Alaskans about angel investing, the practice of individual investors financing small business ventures in exchange for equity. CBSM’s Student Investment Fund and the Alaska Center for Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship partnered together, providing $5,000 for the students to make an investment in an early-stage Alaskan company.

This was the 10th annual event where students could network with community leaders, explore opportunities, and learn how to make a difference for Alaska and its people.

    Receiving a CBSM education is about more than learning in a classroom or out of a textbook. Numerous opportunities are available for experiential learning. This happens through offerings such as the Professionally Polished program and student organization involvement. These unique experiences teach students skills such as time management, prioritization, teamwork, and marketing. Networking opportunities are abundant to match our students with potential employers. Guest speakers from around the nation provide a boost to topics covered in classes. CBSM students often say these opportunities have a huge impact on their overall educational experience - as well as their career path after graduation.     On April 3-6, 2022, two members of the Associated Students of Business student organization participated in a trip organized by the National Millennial and GenZ Community. Each of them shared a few thoughts on their experience. Jenifer Garcia, senior accounting and business administration student: It was an honor to attend the National Millennial and GenZ Community visit to San Francisco, California. The mission of NMGZ is to change the conversation about NextGen. The community elevates conversations to find real solutions. This is done by having direct conversations with corporations, foundations, governmental agencies, and nonprofit groups.
