Sarah M. Hayes
Research Description
Dr. Hayes studies the effects of mineral weathering on the mobility and bioaccessibility of toxic metals in geomedia (e.g., soils, mine tailings, and dusts). This information helps to quantify exposure routes and develop novel remediation technologies to mitigate the harmful effects of toxic metals on humans and ecosystems. Her current interests include examining the effects of mineral weathering on toxic metals in mine tailings, understanding the impact of remediation on metal speciation, determining metal bioaccessibility in dust particles, and investigating the geochemistry of tellurium.
