Joining a dual enrollment program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is a great way to get started on college earlier while earning credit toward high school graduation. To make your transition between high school and college as smooth as possible, you'll have access to student support services to help you succeed at UAF and beyond.
Tracking your student’s grades
Now is a good time to start the conversation on how information is going to be shared with you as a parent from your student. If you'd like access to your child’s information while they're in a dual enrollment program, you'll need to work with your student to have them complete a Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) release. This will give you more access to your student’s information if you reach out on your own. Students are responsible for communication with their professors regarding grades and course material. All grades are reported in the student portal, UAOnline, and UAF faculty and staff won't give grades over the phone or by email.

Learning and disability accommodations
Students taking UAF courses who have an IEP or a 504 Plan can apply for accommodations through the Office of Disability Services. Disability Services staff work with students to help determine specific accommodations. Common accommodations include providing a note-taker, extra time on tests, transcription and more.
Get your PolarExpress ID card
There are many benefits to having a student ID — even if you're taking online classes. For example, many businesses offer discounts for college students with their student ID!
To get a PolarExpress card, wherever you are, simply fill out the electronic application (requires login). After submitting your application, send a photo of yourself (can be a selfie) and a photo of a government-issued ID to UAF-Bursar@alaska.edu.

AHEAD Dual Enrollment Student Support
The Alaska Higher Education Admission Decision (AHEAD) program lets qualified high school students be formally admitted to the University of Alaska Fairbanks as general studies majors. To qualify, students must have completed three-fourths of their high school core curriculum and have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average or higher. (To qualify for federal financial aid, you must have either a high school diploma or a GED.
Choosing a major
As an AHEAD student, you’ll enter the University of Alaska Fairbanks as a general studies student. By the end of your sophomore year, you'll need to choose a specific major to pursue. We know it can be overwhelming trying to decide between all the great University of Alaska Fairbanks majors, so we offer many resources to help you on your UAF journey.
These include campus resources to assist you in creating a learning pathway and choosing a major, as well as the Office of Career Services — which can help you figure out what career is right for you and which degree can best help you achieve your goals.
Alaska Advantage Dual Enrollment Student Support
Alaska Advantage is ideal for students who cannot travel to campus or prefer the freedom and flexibility of taking courses online. If you have questions about online learning at UAF or want help enrolling at UAF, contact UAF's Alaska Advantage Coordinator, Amy Bristor, today!
Find a proctor for tests and placement exams
While taking online courses at UAF is easy and convenient, finding a proctor to provide and watch over exams can be hard if you don’t know where to look. There are approved proctors all over Alaska so, you can take exams wherever you live.
North Star College Dual Enrollment Student Services
North Star College is designed to give Fairbanks North Star Borough School District high school students an early experience of campus life. Students in North Star College take classes at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus and can even participate in campus organizations and events.

While in the North Star College at UAF, you'll always have the support of your close-knit community of faculty and peers. If you'd like help with your college writing assignments, or just want to improve your writing in general, UAF has a student-staffed Writing Center with tutors ready to help.
