College of Liberal Arts to host open house
September 27, 2016
The University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Liberal Arts will host its fourth annual
open house event, We Are CLA, from 3-5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the Regents' Great
Hall on the Fairbanks campus.
This year’s event is geared towards undeclared, new and returning CLA students. Five
participating students will receive scholarship awards worth $500 each. Students must
be present to win. Scholarships are provided by CLA alumni and donors who have contributed
to CLA through the UAF phonathon in the past year.
We Are CLA showcases the disciplines, research, faculty and student activities of
the college, which includes more than 40 degree programs, from anthropology to English
to women’s, gender and sexuality studies. Undeclared students are invited to discover
the CLA experience firsthand. Academic advisors from each CLA department will be onsite
to schedule advising appointments, and CLA’s many student clubs will be recruiting
members.
The event will include demonstrations from every CLA department and will have degree
and course information for new, returning and potential students. Liberal arts alumni
are invited to reconnect with professors, alongside donors, friends and members of
the Fairbanks community.
UAF representatives will have information on financial aid, student exchanges, support
services, honors opportunities, undergraduate research, and leadership and volunteer
work.
CLA, the largest academic unit at UAF, includes the arts, humanities, social sciences
and language disciplines across 20 departments.
Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
