The Strait Science Series lectures are presented by Northwest Campus and Alaska Sea Grant to promote understanding between citizens of the Bering Strait region and the researchers who frequent the Seward Peninsula.

Graphite was first mined at Graphite Creek in the early 1900’s.  Today there is interest in graphite as a component of lithium-ion batteries.  What is graphite and why is it north of Nome? Kirsten will cover what is graphite, the geologic history of the Kigluaik mountains, and how the amount of graphite is determined.
