Campus Visit Dates: 2022

 

The CBSM Dean Search Committee has invited three candidates for a hybrid virtual and/or in-person campus visit. The candidates will meet with CBSM faculty, staff, students, community members, and will give public presentations via livestream, and/or in-person.

The College of Business and School of Management (CBSM) is dedicated to providing high-quality business education in Alaska through a unique, active and experiential learning environment. With small class sizes, dedicated and approachable faculty and many opportunities for students to connect with the local community and professionals in their fields, CBSM prepares broadly-educated professionals with a wealth of hands-on experience.

The dean is the chief executive officer of the College of Business and Security Management, reports to the UAF Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor, and assumes responsibility for the overall academic leadership and management of the college which includes supervision of faculty and staff, leading the college and securing the support and resources necessary to achieve its mission. The dean is also responsible for the management of the college, programs, and the instructional, research, and service/outreach activities of the CBSM faculty, and is charged with all aspects of the college's external engagement, including fundraising, developing partnerships with industry and commerce, and enhancing the image and reputation of the school both regionally and nationally.

The candidates will be meeting with various UAF groups: CBSM faculty, staff, administration, community leaders and will be required to conduct a public presentation. All meetings will be available via Zoom and public presentations will be available via livestream. Depending on venue room capacity, meetings for in-person attendance may be limited and RSVP for attendance in person will be required. More information will be provided prior to the campus visits.

Dr. Michael Fronmueller is a Professor of Strategic and International Management at the University of Wisconsin River Falls and earned his Ph.D. from Washington State University. He has 14 years of experience as a dean including 5 years as dean at River Falls.  As a 20-year AACSB volunteer, Peer Reviewer, Review Team Chair, and Mentor for schools undergoing initial and continuous accreditation review in the US, Europe, and Asia, he brings an appreciation for the wide variety of disparate “Business School Models “around the Globe. Michael s career reflects a passion for challenges and innovation and his ability to build active and mutually beneficial partnerships with faculty, students, staff, and the community.  He has managed complex budget successfully, even under the most challenging conditions and succeeded in building support for student success, faculty research and development, strong staff support and active engagement with the community. He is a first-generation college student and immigrant from Europe who worked to pay his way through college.

Professor Saurav Dutta has over thirty years of experience in academia, industry and government.  He has held faculty positions at Curtin University (Australia), State University of New York, City University of New York and Rutgers University.  He has served in various capacities at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, including the prestigious position of Academic Fellow in the Office of Chief Accountant at the SEC.  He has provided litigation support to NY Attorney General’s office, U.S. District Courts and many Fortune 500 companies.  Professor Dutta has authored two books, one research monograph, over fifty peer-reviewed academic publications, and about ten public-interest/professional articles.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas and his Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay.  He is the recipient of 1989 Robert Beyer Silver medal for securing second highest total score in the CMA examination.

Cameron “Cam” Carlson serves as Associate Dean for the College of Business and Security Management (CBSM) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He is the founding director for the Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) undergraduate and graduate programs, and the Center for Arctic Security and Resilience (CASR). He earned his undergraduate degree (BS) in Biology from Monmouth University and graduate degree (MA) in International Relations from Webster University in 1986 and 1995 respectively, and Ph.D. in Security and Disaster Management (Interdisciplinary Programs) in 2017. He is a member of FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute Thought Leadership Forum. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army in 2006 after 25 years on active duty where he served in various leadership and staff roles.  Dr. Carlson has led multiple CBSM initiatives to increase enrollment through expanded program offerings, transfer agreements, and strategic planning efforts.
