Tom Robenolt is the Artistic Associate at Perseverance Theatre (PT) in Juneau, Alaska.
Along with his duties as Artistic Associate, he is the Director of Education and Casting
for the theatre. While at PT, Tom has directed Mainstage shows including Seven Homeless
Mammoths Wander New England, Othello, the Juneau production of NNPN’s rolling world
premiere of Not Medea, and PT’s annual production of A Christmas Carol. Tom has acted
in six Mainstage shows at PT, Treasure Island, the world premiere of Rush at Everlasting,
A Christmas Carol, To Kill A Mockingbird, Treadwell Gold and The Elaborate Entrance
of Chad Deity. For the Education department, Tom has directed three productions as
well as supervised all of the theatre’s Education programs. Before his time as Artistic
Associate, he served as the theatre’s Box Office Manager and Marketing Associate,
as well as other administrative duties assigned by the Artistic Director. Prior to
PT, Tom served as the Education Director and Artistic Associate for Fairbanks Shakespeare
Theatre (FST). While at FST, he directed The Tempest, Of Mice and Men, The Complete
Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, The Comedy of Errors, Macbeth, Campaign The
Spectacle, Lear Khehkwaii (tour), Verdi and the Bard (co-produced with Opera Fairbanks),
As You Like It, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (tour). Of these productions, the highlights
for Tom was directing and co-conceiving with friend and artist Allan Hayton, two Alaska
Native inspired Shakespeare productions, Lear Khehkwaii (King Lear) and Ch’eet’eegwiniindkan
Haa Ch’ijak Iltsaii (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). These productions served as language
revitalization projects. Lear Khehkwaii was translated into Gwich’in, an Alaska Native
language spoken in Alaska and Canada, while Ch’eet’eegwiniindkan Haa Ch’ijak Iltsaii
(A Midsummer Night’s Dream), was translated into Gwich’in, Tlingit and Yupik languages.
Both of these productions toured to remote villages across the state made possible
by NEA’s Shakespeare in American Communities grant. Prior to his work in Alaska, Tom
acted and directed in Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, New York City and New Jersey.
