Science Potpourri

Designed to spark Children's curiosity about the science, the Science Potpourri has been a staple of K-12 science outreach on the UAF campus since the 1980's.

Originally the potpourri was the brain child of Marlys Schneider, longtime stock clerk/lab manager for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the event began as a small "grassroots" gathering of exhibitors. Marlys got a UA President's special fund to run the first event.  At the time CNSM was housed in the Bunnell building and the event was run in the lower section of the Wood Center.  It then moved into the Reichardt Building after it's completion in 1994.

Tom Clausen Emeritus Professor of Chemistry was a huge part of the success of the event in its early days.

Marlys maintained the coordination of the event until her retirement in 2008. The Potpourri remained an annual outreach staple until April of 2020, when the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Science Potpourri will return Saturday, April 13, 2024!
