Dr. Debendra K. Das

Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Debendra K. Das has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1984 to 2018; and

WHEREAS Dr. Das expertly taught mechanical engineering courses and has been an especially dedicated mentor to thirty-two master’s and doctoral students; and

WHEREAS Dr. Das is a highly productive and internationally respected researcher in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer, having published more than one hundred articles and five books, many of these co-authored with his graduate students; and

WHEREAS Dr. Das has made important contributions to professional and public service, including a variety of roles in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and numerous leadership positions with community mental health organizations; and

WHEREAS Dr. Das has earned several notable honors, including Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Emil Usibelli Award for Distinguished Teaching, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Student Section Advisor Award;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Debendra K. Das for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Das and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Debendra K. Das as Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Debendra K. Das, and conveyed to Dr. Das on this 4th day of May, 2018.
