Dr. Douglas Goering
Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Dean of Engineering, Emeritus
WHEREAS Dr. Douglas J. Goering has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1989 to 2018 and as Dean of Engineering from 2006 to 2018; and
WHEREAS Dr. Goering has impacted thousands of Alaska’s engineering students, first by developing curriculum, classroom teaching, and providing hands-on experiences as a faculty member, and then by leading the successful drive to double engineering enrollment and graduates as Dean; and
WHEREAS Dr. Goering has skillfully mentored sixteen graduate students to completion of their master’s and doctoral degrees; and
WHEREAS Dr. Goering is a pioneering researcher in computational heat transfer and fluid mechanics and heat transfer from soils and fill materials in cold climates; and
WHEREAS Dr. Goering was one of the key individuals who envisioned, planned, promoted and secured community and industry backing for legislative funding and donor support for the new Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Douglas J. Goering for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Goering and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Douglas J. Goering as Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Dean of Engineering, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Douglas J. Goering, and conveyed to Dr. Goering on this 4th day of May, 2018.
