Dr. Cynthia Hardy

Professor of Developmental Education, Emerita

WHEREAS Dr. Cynthia Hardy served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching and public service from 1986 to 2018; and

WHEREAS Dr. Hardy has been a talented and caring teacher of writing, English and reading for more than thirty-five years; and

WHEREAS Dr. Hardy was one of the founding faculty members of the Department of Developmental Education and has been a tireless advocate for improving students’ success; and

WHEREAS Dr. Hardy is an accomplished writer, who has published two books of poetry and numerous poems and pieces of fiction; and

WHEREAS Dr. Hardy has made numerous contributions to professional and community service, including serving in many roles with the Faculty Senate, as the faculty advisor for the student literary magazine Icebox and as Literary Arts Director for the Fairbanks Arts Association; and

WHEREAS Dr. Hardy has earned notable awards, including the Joan Johnson Award in Fiction from the University of Southern Mississippi and an individual artist’s fellowship from the Alaska State Council on the Arts;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Cynthia Hardy for her extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Hardy and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Cynthia Hardy as Professor of Developmental Education, Emerita; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Cynthia Hardy, and conveyed to Dr. Hardy on this 4th day of May, 2018.
