Dr. Gordon Kruse
Professor of Fisheries, Emeritus
WHEREAS Dr. Gordon Kruse has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 2001 to 2018; and
WHEREAS Dr. Kruse had a distinguished career with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game before being recruited as the University of Alaska President’s Professor of Fisheries; and
WHEREAS Dr. Kruse expertly taught graduate courses, wisely mentored twelve graduate students to completion of their master’s or doctoral degrees, and continues to supervise additional students; and
WHEREAS Dr. Kruse has been an international leader in research concerning stock assessment, life history and demographics, population dynamics, fisheries oceanography and fishery management for multiple species of crabs, shrimps, walleye pollock, Pacific herring and other fishes; and
WHEREAS Dr. Kruse has served as a member, Vice Chair and Chair of the Scientific and Statistical Committee of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council and as the U.S. delegate to the Fisheries Science Committee of the North Pacific Marine Science Organization; and
WHEREAS Dr. Kruse has earned many honors, including the Wally Noerenberg Award for Fishery Excellence and the Alaska Ocean Leadership Award for Research;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Gordon Kruse for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Kruse and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Gordon Kruse as Professor of Fisheries, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Gordon Kruse, and conveyed to Dr. Kruse on this 4th day of May, 2018.
