Dr. Joy F. Morrison
Director of Faculty Development, Emerita
WHEREAS Dr. Joy F. Morrison has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1990 to 2017; and
WHEREAS Dr. Morrison was an outstanding Journalism faculty member for more than a decade and helped to initiate the Women’s Studies program; and
WHEREAS Dr. Morrison’s research had a focus on the roles of minorities and women in mass media and theater, including examples from Russia, Africa and Australia, as well as the United States; and
WHEREAS Dr. Morrison, in her capacity of Director of Faculty Development, personally welcomed new faculty, organized social and professional development events, served as a mentor, and helped new faculty feel connected to the University; and
WHEREAS Dr. Morrison made important contributions in professional and community service, including membership on the Professional Organizational Development Network Core Committee, the Georgeson Botanical Garden Society board, and the Friends of Creamer’s Field board, which she chaired for five years;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Joy F. Morrison for her extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Morrison and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Joy F. Morrison as Director of Faculty Development, Emerita; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Joy F. Morrison, and conveyed to Dr. Morrison on this 4th day of May, 2018.
