Dr. A. David McGuire

Professor of Ecology, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. A. David McGuire has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and service from 1995 to 2018; and

WHEREAS Dr. McGuire has trained a generation of ecosystem modelers by mentoring dozens of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, while also teaching undergraduates; and

WHEREAS Dr. McGuire has maintained a phenomenally productive research career funded through multiple millions of dollars in grants, and he has produced more than two hundred peer-reviewed publications, many in the most prestigious journals; and

WHEREAS Dr. McGuire has helped develop national and international science initiatives through work on numerous committees, including those organized by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Geological Survey, the Arctic Research Commission, the Carbon Cycle Interagency Working Group of the U.S. Climate Change Science Program, and the Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee; and

WHEREAS Dr. McGuire has been honored as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has earned UAF’s Emil Usibelli Distinguished Research Award;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. A. David McGuire for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. McGuire and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby confers upon Dr. A. David McGuire the title of Professor of Ecology, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor as further evidence of the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ esteem and respect for Dr. A. David McGuire, and conveyed to Dr. McGuire on this fourth day of May, 2019.
