Dr. Michael Castellini

Professor of Marine Biology and Dean of the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Michael Castellini has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1989 to 2020; and

WHEREAS Dr. Castellini is a prominent researcher of marine mammal physiology, a valued mentor and a highly respected advisor; and he championed the establishment of a marine biology doctoral program at UAF; and he chaired or co-chaired fifteen successful graduate student committees and served on many more; and

WHEREAS Dr. Castellini has published more than seventy research articles and authored more than a dozen book chapters, and is a widely recognized expert in the physiology of marine mammals and their diving adaptations; and

WHEREAS Dr. Castellini has a remarkable record of service established through, among many other activities, his participation in numerous top-level national scientific panels, his guidance to the Alaska Sea Life Center, and his administrative leadership as a director and dean during development and construction of the research vessel Sikuliaq;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Michael Castellini for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Castellini and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Michael Castellini as Professor of Marine Biology and Dean of the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Michael Castellini, and conveyed to Dr. Castellini on this first day of May, 2021
