Dr. Kenneth Coyle

Research Associate Professor of Oceanography, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Kenneth Coyle served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in research and public service from 1974 to 2020; and

WHEREAS Dr. Coyle, despite his research faculty appointment, has served on sixteen doctoral student committees and nine master’s student committees; and

WHEREAS Dr. Coyle has been lead author of thirty-one research publications and co-author on another forty-eight, with most articles appearing in well-respected first-tier journals; and he has been principal investigator or co-principal investigator on forty-six projects; and he has worked as a talented field ecologist and an accomplished numerical modeler; and his efforts made UAF sufficiently competitive to be awarded a new National Science Foundation Long-Term Ecological Research site in 2017; and

WHEREAS Dr. Coyle has worked with numerous other institutions, colleagues at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and UAF faculty members outside the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, service that exceeded the requirements of his research faculty assignment;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Kenneth Coyle for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Coyle and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Kenneth Coyle as Research Associate Professor of Oceanography, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Kenneth Coyle, and conveyed to Dr. Coyle on this first day of May, 2021
