Mr. William J. Cox

Director of Utilities, Emeritus

WHEREAS Mr. William J. Cox served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in facilities maintenance and operation from 1987 to 1991 and from 1993 to 2023; and

WHEREAS Mr. Cox worked at the heating, ventilation and air conditioning shop for 17 years, first as a technician and then supervisor, before serving as maintenance superintendent for nine years; and he spent his last two years as the director of utilities, overseeing UAF’s heat, power and water utility operations; and he knows every square inch of every utilidor and critical infrastructure system on campus; and

WHEREAS Mr. Cox is a conscientious employee who cares for others deeply; and he diligently upholds safety standards, taking every alarm and test seriously and ensuring that each system’s staff and managers provide quality support; and he has dedicated himself to teaching and coaching to create a cohesive team; and

WHEREAS Mr. Cox is a true Renaissance man, with a passion for the arts, music and sharing stories; and he holds the principal trombone position in the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. William J. Cox for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Cox and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. William J. Cox as director of utilities, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mr. William J. Cox, and conveyed to Mr. Cox on this sixth day of May, 2023.
