Dr. Peter A. DeCaro

Associate Professor of Communication, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Peter A. DeCaro has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 2011 to 2023; and

WHEREAS Dr. DeCaro is known for his outstanding teaching; and he chaired or served as a member on numerous graduate student committees; and he worked as a faculty advisor to several student clubs and organizations; and

WHEREAS Dr. DeCaro directed development of fully online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in communication; and he created the alternative dispute resolution minor, with a focus on restorative practices; and Dr. DeCaro was a co-founding member of the Veterans Memorial Project and served in an advising capacity to various military-affiliated groups on campus; and

WHEREAS Dr. DeCaro has delivered dozens of presentations and produced dozens of publications in the communication field, including papers, articles, books and book chapters; and

WHEREAS Dr. DeCaro served as the Department of Communication chair for many years after his arrival at UAF; and he serves as executive director of the American Communication Association; and he has participated in numerous other professional activities;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Peter A. DeCaro for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. DeCaro and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Peter A. DeCaro as associate professor of communication, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Peter A. DeCaro, and conveyed to Dr. DeCaro on this sixth day of May, 2023.
