Dr. Santanu Khataniar

Professor of Petroleum Engineering, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Santanu Khataniar has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and service from 1991 to 2023; and

WHEREAS Dr. Khataniar has taught a broad range of courses in petroleum engineering; and his students recognized his teaching abilities with six outstanding faculty awards from 1992-2020; and Dr. Khataniar has chaired or co-chaired 35 graduate student committees and served on more than 60 others; and Dr. Khataniar taught a number of courses in Anchorage, which boosted enrollment and industry connections; and

WHEREAS Dr. Khataniar conducted internationally recognized research in gas-to-liquids technology and enhanced oil recovery; and he drew more than $10 million in research funding to UAF; and he has published a book chapter, 29 peer-reviewed articles and over 50 refereed conference papers; and he has been an invited technical speaker in international conferences; and

WHEREAS Dr. Khataniar has served on numerous UAF committees, including those involved in curriculum review and redesign; and he served as the Department of Petroleum Engineering chair; 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Santanu Khataniar for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Khataniar and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Santanu Khataniar as professor of petroleum engineering, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Santanu Khataniar, and conveyed to Dr. Khataniar on this sixth day of May, 2023.
