Mr. Richard McDonald

Professor of Computer Information Systems, Emeritus

WHEREAS Mr. Richard McDonald has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching and service from 2014 to 2023; and

WHEREAS Mr. McDonald has greatly benefited UAF Community and Technical College students through his expert teaching in the information technology field; and he secured technologies that the IT specialist program uses to teach online at a quality level previously achievable in only a face-to-face setting; and

WHEREAS Mr. McDonald’s novel methods have brought online technical training to students in rural Alaska; and when COVID-19 globally disrupted teaching in 2020, Cisco Systems invited Mr. McDonald to present online teaching methods to its affiliated networking instructors worldwide; and

WHEREAS Mr. McDonald has published multiple technical textbooks, with some translated into more than a dozen languages; and he has made numerous conference presentations on both technical topics and online teaching methods; and

WHEREAS Mr. McDonald has served on several university committees; and he has served as a mentor to other faculty members in the IT program; and he has volunteered as a docent at the University of Alaska Museum of the North;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Richard McDonald for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. McDonald and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. Richard McDonald as professor of computer information systems, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mr. Richard McDonald, and conveyed to Mr. McDonald on this sixth day of May, 2023.
