Ms. Kimberly Aragon Stewart

Instructor of Spanish, Emeritus

WHEREAS Ms. Kimberly Aragon Stewart has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching and service from 1994 to 2023; and

WHEREAS Ms. Stewart is known for her outstanding teaching and mentorship; and her creative and challenging methods drew a dedicated following among students; and she is unfailingly kind, warm and encouraging to students; and she taught roughly 7,500 students in 240 courses across almost three decades; and

WHEREAS Ms. Stewart took on numerous tasks, always wanting to do what was best for her colleagues and the foreign languages program; and she enthusiastically shared her expertise for language teaching and learning within the realm of second language acquisition; and

WHEREAS Ms. Stewart led multiple overseas study trips with students, encouraging cultural examination and reflection while patiently dealing with obstacles; and she took on numerous additional duties, such as advising the Spanish club, mentoring high school Spanish teachers and judging high school poetry readings;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Ms. Kimberly Aragon Stewart for her extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Ms. Stewart and as evidence of the university’s desire that her identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Ms. Kimberly Aragon Stewart as instructor of Spanish, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Ms. Kimberly Aragon Stewart, and conveyed to Ms. Stewart on this sixth day of May, 2023.
