Mr. Mark D. Young

Associate Professor of Applied Business and Accounting, Emeritus

WHEREAS Mr. Mark D. Young has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching and service from 2006 to 2023; and

WHEREAS Mr. Young’s students consistently rated his teaching as good to excellent; and he employed innovations such as gamification, course flipping and teaming with local businesses on marketing; and he led micro-credentialing efforts that verify students’ skill sets for employers; and, drawing on his experience as a UAF Community and Technical College military programs coordinator from 2007-2012, Mr. Young continued as a faculty member to connect military personnel and their dependents with educational options; and

WHEREAS Mr. Young wrote an Alaska-specific textbook for his introductory business course; and he helped create the Interior Alaska Business Accelerator, which mentors new small businesses; and Mr. Young, who also holds a bachelor’s degree in fisheries, trained seafood processor employees in Kodiak and Dutch Harbor in management; and

WHEREAS Mr. Young has demonstrated exceptional leadership on many CTC committees; and he served as a dynamic chair and coordinator for the department, where he promoted the program, created new curriculum, mentored faculty, led the advisory council, and collaborated with the College of Business and Security Management;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Mark D. Young for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Young and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. Mark D. Young as associate professor of applied business and accounting, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mr. Mark D. Young, and conveyed to Mr. Young on this sixth day of May, 2023.
