Dr. Thomas Green

Professor of Chemistry, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Thomas Green served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and service from 2001 to 2023; and

WHEREAS Dr. Green distinguished himself by his excellent teaching of courses, from introductory to graduate level; and he directed nine master’s and doctoral degree students and served on committees for many more; and he expanded the organic chemistry curriculum and developed an innovative “green” lab course; and

WHEREAS Dr. Green’s research has involved synthetic modifications of cyclodextrins, separation and detection of neurotransmitters, and creation of a new pathway for sphingosine analogues, which offer potential in cancer treatment and which resulted in a patent; and he has forty-nine peer-reviewed publications in respected  journals; and

WHEREAS Dr. Green has served on numerous university committees; and he has been a reviewer of multiple books and journal submissions; and he served as president of the Sigma Xi research society’s Alaska chapter; and he served as a judge and session chair for the Alaska high school science symposium for more than a decade; 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Thomas Green for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Green and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Thomas Green as professor of chemistry, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Thomas Green, and conveyed to Dr. Green on this third day of May, 2024.
