BLaST Scientist of the Month: Michael Martins

Michael Martins, a Brazilian and American citizen, is a fourth-year BLaST Scholar and a senior at UAF. Martins graduates in May 2024 with a B.S. in mathematics and a minor in Arctic skills. Read more about Martins' research focus and accomplishments.


Apply for Alaska Sea Grant Community Engaged Fellowship

The Alaska Sea Grant Community Engaged Fellowship program is now accepting applications from students interested in becoming fellows, and from municipal, state, federal and tribal agencies as well as business interest groups and nonprofits interested in mentoring a fellow in 2024. Opportunities for Outdoor Adventure

UAF Outdoor Adventures offers reduced-price gear rentals, ski lessons, and trips for students. Upcoming trips this semester include fishing for burbot, climbing a frozen waterfall, spending a night at a cabin, bird watching, and outdoor rock climbing - no experience necessary! Music series showcases circumpolar cultures

Several public events, including performances, demonstrations and presentations, will showcase the rich musical traditions of the circumpolar North through the end of March in the Davis Concert Hall. Through performances, lectures and hands-on activities, distinct features of northern art and music are shared and explored. See the schedule.

Learn more about the psychology and foundations of money, FAFSA, loan guidance, and more. The UAF Financial Aid Office has teamed up with Inceptia, a private, nonprofit organization, to provide online financial education to help you gain important knowledge on personal money management basics. The facilitators of the seminar series A Place for Knowledge Exchange invite you to a collaboration brunch hosted by the College of Rural and Community Development on Feb. 29, from 9-11 a.m. in the BP Design Theater. The event is open to all UAF faculty, staff, students and the public.

Life After Loss: Grief support group for students, staff, faculty

Student Health and Counseling will be hosting its second session of Life After Loss, a grief support group, beginning Friday, March 8. This group is open to all UAF students, staff and faculty. Read more on the support group and registration.


Nanosatellite

UAF students to build Air Force nanosatellite

A team of University of Alaska Fairbanks students will build the Air Force a nanosatellite roughly the size of an ordinary loaf of sliced bread to show that communications technology of large satellites can be packed into a small space and deliver much more data. Multi-Factor Authentication to be required for students

Due to changing cybersecurity standards, all University of Alaska students will soon be required to use Duo Multi-Factor Authentication when logging into University SSO services, such as UAOnline, Blackboard, Canvas, or Google Apps. Enroll before Spring Break to ensure your access to important university resources isn't disrupted. Read more on preparing for the upcoming requirement.
