Plant cultivar trials for vegetables, flowers, and herbs are conducted every year at the Georgeson Botanical Garden which is at the Fairbanks Experiment Farm. Vegetable trials are also conducted at the Matanuska Experiment Farm.
Trials consist of new and standard cultivars suitable for small market gardens and home gardens in the Tanana Valley and the Mat-Su. Plot sizes are small, and results do not necessarily reflect yield and produce quality that might be expected on large farms. Positive results should be viewed as cultivars worth further testing at commercial and home gardens throughout Alaska.
Please take this survey to provide input on which crops we should trial at the Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Stations in Fairbanks and Palmer.
Results from variety trials are available on our research database.
