UAMN Fine Arts Collection Department Scholarships

The UA Museum of the North Fine Arts collection department offers a small number of scholarships to students for practicums and research related to our collections. See below for current opportunities and application information.

UA Museum Practicum Scholarship

The UA Museum Practicum scholarship was established by Barry McWayne to provide scholarships for students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs at the University of Alaska in support of practicum classes and opportunities that include work hours at the UA Museum of the North as part of credits earned. The selected student is afforded an opportunity to work in a professional museum environment on a project that furthers both the goals of the Museum's Fine Arts Department and the student's academic career.

Academic Year 2024-2025: Students must be enrolled in MRAP 288 or 488 in the Fine Arts collection department to be eligible to receive this scholarship.

Application Deadline: October 15 for Spring semester; May 15 for Fall semester

Award: minimum $1000 per academic year

Kesler Woodward Scholarship

The Kesler Woodward scholarship was established to provide scholarships for degree-seeking students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs at the University of Alaska in any field of study who are working with the Fine Art Collections at the University of Alaska Museum of the North. Scholarship recipients should be working on projects encouraging use of the UA Museum Fine Art collections. Examples of possible projects may be organizing an exhibit with the UA Museum; working on a thesis project related to any aspect of the UA Museum's Fine Art holdings; projects related to increasing access to Fine Art collections; working on a publication related to the Fine Art collections; or working on a project related to the preservation of Fine Art collections.

Academic Year 2025-2026: To ensure consideration for this scholarship, you must reach out to the UAMN Fine Arts collection department contact below about your project.

Application Deadline: February 15 for following academic year

Award: minimum award $500; $1000 per academic year
