Museum Volunteers
It is essential that volunteers understand their rights and responsibilities and that they receive all appropriate training. Below are a series of steps that must be followed in order to become a volunteer at the University of Alaska Museum of the North (UAMN).

Steps to be Completed by Prospective Volunteers
Step One: University of Alaska Information for Volunteers
Download and read the University of Alaska Information for Volunteers document. Anyone needing clarification regarding statements in the document should contact University of Alaska Human Resources at 907-474-7000.
Step Two: Museum Policies, Procedures, and Protocols
Download and read the various policies, procedures, and protocols of the UAMN.
Step Three: Museum Access Agreement
Visit the UAMN Access Page to download and read the Museum User Access and Security Policy and sign a Museum Access Agreement.
Step Four: Museum Volunteer Training Checklist
All persons volunteering for the Museum are required to complete appropriate safety training and sign a training checklist. This checklist also needs to be signed by a Department Head and submitted to Operations. This checklist and links to the training courses can be found on the UAMN Training Page.
Note: Training checklists must be turned in within 10 days of starting to volunteer.
Note: Volunteers that are not students or employees of UAF should contact Operations for assistance in creating a profile needed for training completion.
Steps to be Completed by Department Heads
Step One: University of Alaska Volunteer Qualification Checklist
Download and complete the University of Alaska Volunteer Qualification Checklist for each volunteer. If necessary, obtain approval signatures from University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Risk Management (if you answered yes on questions 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 on page 2 of the checklist) and/or University of Alaska Human Resources (if you answered yes on question 4 on page 2 of the checklist)
Note: Submit the completed checklist to the Museum Director for final approval.
Note: Keep a copy of the completed checklist for at least four years.
Regarding Minors as Volunteers: Additional steps are required to have a minor serve as a volunteer. For more information contact University of Alaska Human Resources at 907-474-7000 or contact UAF Risk Management at 907-474-5487.
