October 2021 Meeting

Chancellor White gave a brief update on the budget and tuition strategy for FY23. Interim President Pitney will present to the Board of Regents in November, her presentation will include a compensation philosophy, advocating for compensation increases. There will be an open forum on tuition this month. UAF would like to increase our lower division tuition, allowing us to keep tuition the same at our community and technical college and the rural campuses. 

Sean Hagan the Chief Information Security Officer gave a presentation on Multi Factor Authentication. This system is being mandated by November 1st for insurance reasons, and is a best practice to prevent fraud and account compromisation. 

Staff Council President Ronnie Houchin gave a presentation on the staff morale survey results from 2021. This survey went out to 1,185 recipients, 415 responses were recorded, over 1,000 comments were written in and we had an overall response rate of 35%. The presentation slides may be viewed here

Chancellor White would like to thank the staff council for their work on the staff morale survey. He hopes to grow the connection between leadership and staff, and improve trust and morale.

Simi Khurana with University Relations gave a presentation on UA Giving Day. This event will take place over November 9th & 10th for 49 hours. You can select any program or area you choose to support during UA Giving Day. Simi is looking for champions to advocate on social media platforms and reachout to their communities. 

Announcements and Updates:

Interim President Pitney provided a response to the FY23 Staff Alliances compensation memo.

UA Administration has put out a draft Compensation Philosophy Statement for feedback that will be discussed at the November Board of Regents meeting. If it is approved during the meeting, the process for developing corresponding regents policy and regulations will begin. In September 2021 Staff Council sent a memo to Interim President Pitney regarding the proposed remote work regulations. We were provided the following Response to Comments on Proposed Regulations

Nycolett Rabley from UA HR provided us an update on the Chief Human Resources Officer recruitment. At this time the recruitment is still open. 

The Remote Work Regulations have been approved and HR is offering training opportunities. https://www.alaska.edu/hr/remote-work/index.php 

UAF Human Resources invites you to Guided Conversation" sessions. These begin October 22nd, and allow you to have conversations based on a certain topic for each session. Please sign up at least one day in advance via myUA.

Derek Bastille gave an update on the staff council elections, ballots will be going out on October 12th and will close at 5:00PM on October 29th. A BIG thank you to Rachel Hewitt for her help in the nomination and tracking process. 

University Advocacy is currently in the process of reviewing the Staff Development Funds. They’re creating outreach events by hosting a staff fun night, and developing a staff cookbook.
