Meeting Highlights and Announcements

Staff Council President Ronnie Houchin’s written report.Ronnie’s report includes goals that the staff council executive board would like to pursue and develop. The faculty alliance submitted a number of requests to the system office and we will share those once we receive a response. Human ResourcesBryan Hoppough recently conducted a remote work survey. This went out to deans, chancellors and administrators to review our current status. Most are doing well with no issues or minor issues. We have 472 remote work agreements on file at this time. The job family review is currently on hold. This process is lengthy and could take 3-5 years to complete. Recruitments are having challenges with receiving applicants, we are looking into alternative advertising options. We want to be competitive with the current workforce. Our hiring process is being reviewed since it does take a good amount of time to get into the UA system. |
Chancellor WhiteThank you everyone for your work on staff council. Thank you to Ronnie, Ataur and Ashlyn for maintaining a productive relationship between our governance groups. Chancellor White reminds us to keep our remote work status updated, there is an option to cancel if you are no longer working remotely. We had a large number of remote work employees during covid and some may need to update their status. The administrative management review process began in 2019 when we were in fiscal exigency which required the review of academic programs. There is a process in board of regents policy for expedited academic program review. At UAF we did the review over 2 years to allow us to spread out the workload. In 2019 the faculty senate had asked if we would do an administrative review in parallel to the academic review. This was a small team of 6 members that worked with former provost Susan Henrichs. The group came up with some recommendations, to review shared services. In the second year we focused on administrative management positions to increase efficiency. They came up with a large number of recommendations, Chancellor White responded to those recommendations 4 different times, some went to the vice chancellors to act upon. Chancellor White sent the faculty senate a 7 page response last week to address those items. There is a budget forum coming up that will give updates on the FY23 and FY24 budget. President Pitney will be asking for an increase in our FY24 budget, that is a positive sign. We would also like to focus on addressing moral issues, the staff council has been focusing on this and we can also bring our moral issues to Chancellor White. |
