SPRING 2024
A Global Celebration: Stories from UAF’s 102nd Commencement
Among the many inspiring stories from this year's graduating class, one of our own stands out: Louinese Brave, a trailblazing student from the Bahamas on the beautiful islands of Nassau, who completed her degree entirely online. Louinese’s journey to UAF began with an unexpected challenge.
Read Louinese's storyIn August of 2012, ROTC was combined with the UAF College of Business and Security and in 2024, they moved into the same building. This collaboration is fitting, as many of CBSM’s staff, faculty, and dean are veterans themselves. In this story, students Ivana Brito and Zeber Khan share their journey navigating higher education while in service.
What does it take to become the recipient of the UAF Business Leader of the Year (BLOY) award? The four pillars are leadership, business acumen, community involvement and educational support. Our 2024 recipient is Tracy Vanairsdale, the president and a firm principal of Bettisworth North Architects and Planners, Inc.
From Alaska to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York City, CBSM student organizations have caught flights and experienced learning opportunities of a lifetime. 2024 has been a period of renewed growth for multiple members from groups including Associated Students of Business (ASB), Native Alaskan Business Leaders (NABL) and finance class, Student Investment Fund (SIF).
Throughout academic history, honor societies have held a prestigious place, acknowledging students for their academic excellence, leadership abilities, and community contributions. At the UAF College of Business and Security Management, Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) and the Order of the Sword and Shield (OSS) stand as proud examples.
On April 20th, the Westmark Hotel was abuzz with excitement as the UAF College of Business and Security Management hosted the annual UAF Arctic Innovation Competition (AIC). Thirteen top competitors demonstrated the transformative power of innovation throughout the day. AIC attracts competitors of all ages and showcases a diverse array of innovations, including inventions, designs, apps, and start-ups.
